Eight Women Released, 24 Women on Hunger Strike, One in Solitary Confinement

Eight women’s rights activists who were arrested in the peaceful demonstrations in front of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court Sunday were released today. Parastoo Dokoohaki, Saghie Laghayee, Sara Laghayee, Niloofar Golkar, Parastoo Sarmadi, Nahid Entesari, Farideh Entesari, and Sara Imanian have been released today from Evin Prison, after their families submitted bail to the court.
The eight women who were released today confirmed that the 24 women who are still in section 209 of Evin Prison have started a hunger strike in protest to their illegal confinement. They suspect that other women would not be released soon.
Among the 24 women still in custody, Shahla Entesari has been held in solitary confinement since her arrest following the protest at the court on Sunday. She was one of the five women who were being prosecuted in the court Sunday. She was arrested immediately after the court session ended.
